Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho it’s off to work we go….

In the Upper Valley, not only are we heading off to work each day but we are celebrating our jobs in all kinds of fun and uplifting ways in the next few months.

First Parish Players  will start us off with Pieces of Work.  Storytellers from all over the Upper Valley will be sharing work experiences that helped shape their lives.  Six nights, two different casts, present stories of farm work, journalism, trade with China, surgery, and Tech Savvy Momma. That’s me!

I couldn’t resist, when I saw the announcement for auditions I jumped on the chance to shed my keyboard and take this opportunity to tell a tale from the Job Bank live—in front of people—no edits—no do overs.  Why do I do these things…I have no idea!  Seriously, I’m looking forward to it, I think.

Our Director has done a great job directingPieces, persevering during the coldest of days when the theater furnace broke down and snow storms raged.  Some of us have had to whittle our stories down a bit and others have stretched to elaborate.  She divided our group into two casts so that each evening offers a well balanced combination of sad and serious, poignant and hilarious.  (FYI I’m in Group 2)

Soon after Pieces of Workcloses Working  the musical will open at the Briggs Opera House. Based on Studs Terkel’s best selling book of interviews with American workers the play honors the hard working people who help our lives work better with some great music from songwriters such as James Taylor.

Now you have no excuse for cabin fever! Head home from your day job and come out to share some great nights of fun…. Heigh Ho! Heigh-Ho!
