Research Project with Elementary School Students & Parents

My name is Kate Griffin and I am a doctoral candidate at the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies and I am currently recruiting families in the Upper Valley for a research project.  All families with a child in kindergarten, 2nd, or 4th grades are invited to participate in the study.

The focus of my study is how parents talk to their children about different social issues, including issues of hunger, poverty, and helping others. Parents play a huge role in their children’s lives, so we are interested in learning more about how parents and children speak about issues that are important to our communities.

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to participate in a discussion-based activity with your child. After watching a video clip together, you will be asked to discuss the video with your child.  This discussion will be audio and video recorded.  Additionally, following the discussion, you will be interviewed regarding your ideas about speaking to your child about social issues. All parents who participate will receive a $20 Amazon Gift Card and all children who participate will receive a book.

Please contact me with any questions you have or if you are interested in participating in the study (katherinemg@ucla.edu), I would love the chance to speak with you more.  Thank you for your time and have a lovely day!

Many thanks,
