Yesterday, on our way out for a family hike, we passed the Lincoln Corner Covered Bridge that has been closed since March.  You may remember it was closed when a truck with some very tall landscape equipment hit the top going through and, instead of stopping, the driver plowed on— hitting each and every truss. Repairs have finally started, and it has been fascinating to watch the progress.  To rebuild a covered bridge, you don’t tear it down and start over, you take it apart like tinker toys and put it back together like a puzzle.  Until…

We know there is low unemployment in Vermont. We know there is a labor shortage in Vermont.  We have become used to “Help Wanted” signs in store windows.  We know restaurants, hotels and any seasonal businesses are having difficulty finding workers. But carpenters—that surprised me!
